Welcome to Year 5 2017-2018
Another great afternoon with Year 6 learning how to RAP – Reduce Accidents at Play.

Year 5 have been exploring ‘Scratch’ in their computing lessons. First, they tried some games which had been made using ‘Scratch’. Next, they looked at the algorithms and coding which had been used – the children were able to change parts of the code and see how this impacted on the game. Finally, the children were able to use a simple algorithm to draw a square on the screen. Over the next few weeks they will be learning how to make more complex algorithms and create their own computer game.

Thank you to Hannah and Finlay for leading our prayers in today’s collective worship. Today we reflected on new life and spring. We recognised God’s beautiful creations in our world.

In English, Year 5 are going to be studying the works of William Shakespeare. We are starting with Macbeth – Today we made predictions based on the blurb and cover. We also explored the language and characters in Act 1.

Year 5 have been evaluating their instructions for making tasty Easter treats. They followed instructions, written yesterday, and made crispy cake nests. The children were able to edit and improve their instructions as they worked.

A very thoughtful collective worship in Year 5 this morning. We reflected on the bravery of Maximilian Kolbe and Oscar Romero. We listened to Luke 12: 22-31 and reminded ourselves that God is always with us to help us in difficult times. The candle reminds us of God’s presence, the rock to represent the difficulties we have to overcome and the El Salvador cross to remind us of Oscar Romero.
